Why this role matters
BT has 21 data centers in the UK, including 2 that support EE, that are supported by this role. In the UK all change activity needs to be done out of business hours, after 10pm, so if the work can be done from the US, much of it can be done during normal working hours. These changes allow for growth in customers consuming additional products and services, as well as launch of new products and services.
The data centers host all BT applications and deliver critical infrastructure services that enable the different Customer Facing Units (CFU) to deliver products and services to their customers.
What you’ll be doing
Design and Implement configuration changes to BT?s data center network and firewall infrastructure, to meet LOB application growth in support of customer growth and market share.
Change must be delivered in line with the LOB expectations but whilst maintaining integrity of existing applications and services.
Technical evaluation, and risk assessment of proposed network and firewalls infrastructure changes to ensure best practices are deployed across the changes, and service impacts for customers are minimized. Where there is risk of impact to service, the role will advise the project team how to plan for and minimize the risk. Part of the change assessment will include estimating the time and effort required.
The role holder is responsible for creating change documentation to ensure that designs are delivered accurately and in the correct sequence. Relevant documentation describes the technical steps and inter-dependencies of any deployment including test and back out plans. These instructions form part of every delivery and ensure that the Service Delivery team continue to protect the business from failed or badly delivered/badly defined change.
To support deployment of new application for new product launch and growth of existing customers.
To respond to, analyze, and mitigate against cyber security threats to the data center infrastructure.
To provide operational 2nd line support, including out of hours call-out, for the data center infrastructure. To investigate, diagnose and manage the resolution of complex faults, to ensure the LOBs can deliver excellent quality of services to their customers. This will involve leading small groups of cross-functional technical teams, to investigate and diagnose application issues, which may be caused by infrastructure issues. Once the underlying issue has been identified, drive the resolution through, minimizing any further disruption, until the customers? service is fully restored.
Continuously improve the infrastructure by integration and deployment of new technologies and seamlessly managing the transition of service onto the new platforms.
Plan for, and implement changes, that move Customers? services and applications off legacy infrastructure networks and firewalls onto new virtualized converged platforms, whilst maintaining existing levels of Customers? services.
Providing technical leadership to cross-functional teams to deliver new infrastructure supporting new products and services. Ensure all new deployments are aligned with relevant security and operational standards, and are fit for purpose, and can be fully supported by the current tools, systems and personnel.
Champions technical Continuous Improvement in the Data Centre environment – promoting a culture of service obsession and cost reduction where processes are challenged, and our people are empowered to make change happen.
Administrative responsibilities for ensuring the US data center, and office, networks and firewalls can be locked down per CFIUS regulations.
Willing to work 10am – 6pm schedule – M-F

Qualifications and Skills
Cisco CCNP accreditation, preferably in data centers
Design, configuration and troubleshooting of :
Cisco data center architectures, networks and switches
VMWare virtualisation, including virtual routers, switches and firewalls. NSX and ESX platforms
Load balancing skills , specifically Citrix based
LINUX, PERL scripting
Cybersecurity threat evaluation
Business risk assessment
Good knowledge of ITIL, 6-sigma, and LEAN practices
Project management experience desired, but not essential
