The Legal Clerk position is responsible for the organization and upkeep of legal documentation and records, and for responding to and dealing with legal correspondence, subpoenas, records requests, etc. The Legal Clerk will also be responsible for performing clerical duties such as making copies, answering phones, preparing legal documents, and assisting in office organization and administration. He/She will work to foster and to maintain positive, effective and efficient working relationships within the department ensuring a consistently positive and productive place to work. The Legal Clerk will work to actively instill the culture, mission, and vision of the company to their work.

Since 1980, CNS has provided post-acute medical treatment, rehabilitation and disease management, and offers residential, inpatient, outpatient and assisted living programs. Locations include Bakersfield, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston.

Essential Duties and Requirements:

Must have the experience and knowledge to comprehend and manage multiple, complex business entities. Work is full time and may require occasional overtime. Work is conducted primarily at the business office and clinic in Bakersfield, and includes visits to other CNS locations as needed, with some work in the community and other sites.

Prepare legal correspondence, documentation, and other materials, including, but not limited to, appropriate responses to subpoenas, record requests, and governmental inquiries.

Organize legal documents, invoices, and letters.

Compile legal documentation into files and maintain an organized filing system.

Create photocopies and reproductions of records and legal documentation.

Maintain and update files and databases for other documentation such as personnel records, financial reports, or policies as necessary.

Maintain schedules, calendars and handle updates as needed.

Assist in locating medical, billing, and legal records, along with organizing, copying, maintaining, and producing such records.

Monitor incoming and outgoing mail for legal department and route appropriately.

Greet clients/persons, sign for packages from USPS, FedEx, or UPS, and answer phone calls and transfer calls to appropriate party as necessary to relieve Executive Assistant.

Maintains professional and ethical relationships with staff, patients, patient families, and other visitors.

Attends any required staff meetings, in-services, and all scheduled shifts.

Special Skills Utilized, Education Level, Training

High school diploma required. Associate?s degree, Bachelor?s degree, and/or paralegal certificate preferred.

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite; scheduling and organization skills required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Able to perform a wide range of clerical duties, specifically including maintaining files and highly confidential information.

Excellent time management skills; able to prioritize tasks appropriately and independently.

Able to organize and to manage large amounts of tasks, schedules, and information.
