Kia Niro EV Concept: SUV for generation Z
Anyone born after the turn of the millennium knows that World not without fast internet. Cable modems, non-touch cell phones, and laptops without Wi-Fi are known to the so-called “Generation Z” only from the traditions of the parents. In 2018, the first of these vintages will drive their first own car. Of course, they do not want to give up the comfort of the digital world. It almost seems as if Kia wants to pick up exactly these young people with the Niro EV Concept. This becomes clear at the sight of the vehicle, because at the front emblazoned instead of a grille, an interactive display. That greets the visitors of the CES in Las Vegas with a friendly “Hello, CES”. Much more important, however, is what's in the car.
Digitalisation via high-speed network
The Niro EV Concept is finally connected to the Internet via a fast 5G. This means higher speeds than the current LTE standard, a more efficient and stable signal, and very low latencies. The latter are of particular importance in the provision of Kia's comprehensive assistance systems and even make autonomous driving functions possible. Also on board is a face and voice recognition, with which the drivers log in the Niro EV on request. Then the car adjusts perfectly to the respective user. As the latest generation is used to, the infotainment system is controlled by touch and gesture – directly on the steering wheel.
Stainless steel with clean electric vest
As befits a modern vehicle, the Kia Niro EV on an electric drive. A 150 kilowatt (kW) engine takes over the propulsion. That's equivalent to just under 204 horsepower (PS). As usual from Stromern, almost the full torque is already available at the first step on the gas pedal. At the traffic light, the SUV should make a good impression. The promises Kia also at the charging station, because the 64 kilowatt hours (kWh) strong battery should last for 383 kilometers – of course, under ideal conditions. This means: Air conditioning off, turn off the radio and relieve the gas foot. Whether and in what form the concept vehicle ever appears, is still in the stars. However, parts of the technology should in any case end up in upcoming models of the brand.
